Home-from-Home Comfort

All bedrooms benefit from good natural light and are pleasantly decorated & fully carpeted with a kitchenette area to house residents’ own fridges & kettles, to enable the independent preparation of breakfast and snacks.

All rooms have their own ensuite shower and toilet.

The residents’ rooms are cleaned weekly and our House Manager encourages residents to personalise their living space with their own furniture items, ornaments and pictures.

For security and safety, all rooms have an emergency call system with a personal alarm pendant connecting them to an external monitoring unit.

The light airy lounge encourages residents to meet together to watch television and play cards or board games, and the large landscaped garden  is a peaceful haven to relax with friends on a sunny afternoon, or take a walk around and discover new delights.

High-quality Cuisine

At Abbeyfield Wey Valley we’re fussy about the food we serve and believe that every meal should be an occasion. We understand how important good quality, nutritious food is in supporting the health and well-being of older people.

To this end, our House Manager serves two main meals a day to form a varied and balanced weekly menu and supplies residents with the basic ingredients enabling them to prepare their own breakfasts in their  rooms.

The two main meals are cooked in our own well-equipped, clean kitchen and to ensure freshness, we source fresh meat, fish, fruit and vegetables. We happily cater for special diets and food preferences.

The residents sit at small tables in our family sized dining room and the House Manager joins them for lunch to create a warm, companionable atmosphere.

Friends and family are very welcome to join us for all meals, but particularly on big occasions and birthdays when we push the boat out, serving a special tea with cake, decorations and fun for all.

Regular monthly trips and activities are organised by the Friends of Abbeyfield . These include visits to the seaside and local National Trust properties, canal trips, cream teas and a Christmas shopping trip, as well as a series of concerts and talks specially organised for us at our houses. Every summer a Garden Party is held in Roundhay’s beautiful garden, to which family and friends are warmly invited. In December we have a special Christmas Dinner for staff and residents in a local restaurant.

Regular groups and activities such as painting and  keep fit classes are organised as well as different film and game nights throughout the year.

Health

Roundhay is served by several local doctor’s surgeries or family doctors are able to visit the house if necessary.

We continue caring for our residents for as long as possible. Those whose needs increase may be able to obtain domiciliary care within our houses. However, we do not (and legally cannot) provide personal care. When the time comes that we are no longer able to look after a resident we will assist them and their family with the decisions that must be made.

"I am always glad to get back to my Roundhay family" "Roundhay has such a bright, friendly atmosphere. I didn't know there were places like this for elderly people"
